About this guide
Owning a carving knife does not tell you what to practise. It is easy to jump straight into a figure and lose track of what the wood or your technique is doing.
Grain, Cuts & Control makes the practice itself the subject. Explore how to approach the grain, think about a controlled cut and work towards simple planes, curves and transitions before adding fine detail.
The guide brings together technique explanations, practice planning sheets and prompts for reviewing the surface you have made. Keep notes about what you intended, what happened and what to change in a later session.
A focused companion for building understanding through repetition, rather than rushing towards a complicated carving.

Is this the right stage for you?
New carvers who have a suitable basic setup and want a structured way to practise before tackling detailed figures.
DREVAN is small decorative whittling by hand. These guides are not furniture making, power carving, axe work, a professional qualification or survival instruction, and they do not replace appropriate hands-on supervision.
Before you choose.
Are these physical books?
No. These are English PDF ebooks. Tools, wood, protective equipment and other materials are not included.
Do I need carving experience?
The collection is designed around the early stages. The First Carving Bench introduces the setup, while the other guides focus on practice, projects and finishing.
Do I need power tools?
The collection focuses on hand carving. Follow the equipment list for your chosen project; the guides do not include a power-tool course.
Are the projects suitable for children?
The guides are aimed at adult beginners. Carving involves sharp tools, so children should not use knives unsupervised. An ebook does not replace appropriate hands-on supervision.
Do protective gloves make carving risk-free?
No. Cut-resistant equipment is an additional precaution and does not replace correct handling, a suitable setup or the instructions for your tools.
Can I read the guides on my phone?
Yes, with an app that can open PDF files. You can also use a tablet or computer.
Can I print the notebook pages?
You may print pages for your own personal use. The files may not be shared, resold or redistributed.
How will I receive the ebooks?
After a successful purchase, the store’s configured digital delivery service provides your download instructions. Keep your order details in case you need help accessing the files.
Are the sample pages complete instructions?
No. They show the interior reading and workbook style. Follow the full project sequence and appropriate tool-handling guidance before attempting a carving.
Are these projects food-contact items or children’s toys?
The collection is presented as decorative carving. It does not certify food-contact suitability, toy safety or the suitability of a finish for those uses.
The other stages of the process

Carving involves sharp tools. Follow complete tool-handling guidance and the instructions for your own equipment before carving, and keep knives away from unsupervised children. Cut-resistant equipment is an additional precaution, never a replacement for correct handling. Finishing depends on the manufacturer’s directions for application, ventilation, drying and disposal; these are decorative objects, not certified food-contact items or children’s toys.
Start small. Shape something of your own.
